#MyEaling Children's Art Exhibition

A very special exhibition celebrating Ealing and its budding young artists is running throughout the summer at Bond Street gallery For Arts Sake.

It comes after the gallery launched a competition asking local kids and young people aged 3-16 to submit pictures of their favourite bits of Ealing, for the chance to star in the #MyEaling show.

Now the winners have been revealed and the exhibition is open until August 25. Nearly 40 artworks have been picked to be framed and hung on the wall, while two overall winners and their runners-up take pride of place in the gallery window.

In the 3-9-year old category the winner is Sophie Choi, 8, with her glorious painting of Walpole Park’s pond and fountain.

In second place is Eliza McDonald, 9, whose splendid mixed media artwork captures ‘The Family’ sculpture (by Welsh artist Robert Thomas) in the Broadway Shopping Centre.

In the 10-16-year-old category the winner is Romy Cornec, 12, with her stunning collage and mixed media vision of Walpole Park’s stone bridge. In second place is Grace Simpson, 11, who celebrates Ealing wildlife with her beautiful collaged butterfly backed by a map of the borough.

The four young artists win gift vouchers to spend at the gallery as well as a starring spot in the gallery window throughout the summer.

For Arts Sake director Brian Davis said: "We have been thrilled by the sheer number of stunning entries, showcasing everything from painting to drawing, collage to pastels, and celebrating the full breadth and beauty of Ealing. It's wonderful to see how inspired the children are by their local area."

He added: "Picking the overall winners has been extraordinarily tough, but we are delighted to say that all of the submitted works will be on show - we felt none should go unrewarded or unseen." Alongside the framed works, nearly 60 unframed pictures have been specially mounted and will be available to view in browsers.

The exhibition, #MyEaling, is open in the For Arts Sake lower gallery for the duration of the summer to August 25. So do pop by and enjoy this gorgeous celebration of our neighbourhood and its budding young talent.

#MyEaling Children's Art Competition!

This summer For Arts Sake wants to celebrate all that's lovely about Ealing - and a new generation of budding artists too!

The Bond Street gallery is seeking children and young people aged 3-16 to create a drawing or painting of their favourite bit of our leafy borough. And the best 20 pictures will be hung in a special exhibition from July 18-August 25.

There will be two age group categories - 3-9 and 10-16 - with 10 pieces picked from each. Every picture exhibited will be framed by the gallery's specialist team, and returned after the show to hang on your wall at home!

The overall winner of each category will also win a £50 For Arts Sake voucher, with the two runners-up scooping £20.

Here's how to enter:

  • You must be aged between 3-16 and have the permission of a parent or guardian.

  • Your design should be original, and on A3 paper or card.

  • Entries should be sent to: For Arts Sake, 45 Bond Street, Ealing, W5 5AS (feel free to drop it in in person too).

  • Please include on the back your name and age, plus your parent or guardian's name, address, contact number and email.

  • The deadline for submissions is Monday 8 July.

  • Email any questions to info@forartssake.com (but we're sorry, the gallery can't accept entries via email).

Please feel free to spread the word and share your pictures on social media using the hashtag #MyEaling and tagging the gallery at @ForArtsSakeUK. Help celebrate the bits we all love most about our 'queen of the suburbs' 😍 And good luck!

Hear of Winter

Christmas is coming and Sally can't sleep – it's far too hot! The weather has gone topsy-turvy. No-one can remember the last time it snowed, or even rained, and her father can't sell any of his umbrellas. To help her sleep Dad reads her a story about the last snowflake.

That night Sally has a dream that changes everything – a mysterious silver spark transforms her bedroom into a glistening, white field where she meets the glowing heart of Winter.

Watermans welcomes back Lyngo Theatre, who brought you the playfully comic Snow Play in 2016. Heart of Winter is their magical new musical show which warmly celebrates family, friendship and the good fortune of finding the winter we really need and want…with the precious festive offering of lots of fluffy snow!

Find your joyful heart of winter at Watermans this Christmas!
