I am a card-maker living in Hanwell. I have always loved making things and for as long as I can remember I have made my own greetings cards. Each of my cards is handmade from an original design so each card is unique.
To make my cards, I sketch designs and add elements cut from paper, card, vinyl or fabric. I have also started to make black and white colour-in cards along the lines of adult colouring books so that people can personalize their cards. Christmas is my favourite time of year and I start making Christmas cards in mid-summer. As animals feature heavily in my card designs, 10p from each of my Christmas cards sold goes to the Celia Hammond Animal Trust charity www.celiahammond.org.
I wrote my PhD thesis on fairytales and I think this fantasy narrative aspect shows through in my slightly surreal designs featuring enchanted, anthropomorphic animals.
I have sold my cards for several years at The Fox Vintage & Craft Markets held at The Fox pub in Hanwell (and in the pub’s Craft Barn as was) and have also started selling elsewhere including at the Chiswick Crafts fair in Chiswick and North Ealing Primary School's Christmas shopping night (Pitshanger Lane). I've also been invited to sell at Eat Me Drink Me's Christmas Night Market on 17th December.
When I am not making cards I am a freelance writer/editor of academic reference books. My newest book has just been published (November 2016, ABC-CLIO) and is a 3-volume encyclopedia of global birth, marriage and death traditions. When I was writing this I spent my daytimes writing about subjects such as female circumcision and then spent my evenings drawing unicorns and hedgehogs.
I would like to start selling my cards in local shops and very soon I plan to sell them through my Etsy store WildeAndSinclair (at the moment this sells vintage jewellery and books) www.etsy.com/uk/shop/WildeAndSinclair. I post my new card designs on Wilde and Sinclair’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/WildeandSinclair.
